Mammillaria hahniana, also known by its common name ‘Old Lady Cactus’, is a popular powder puff type cactus that is sun-loving and easy to grow. The plant, which belongs to the Cactaceae family, is particularly attractive with its lone spherical stems and flowers in hues of red-purple. It can grow up to approximately 10cm tall and 20cm wide.

Flowering Season: Summer

Planting Media: Use soilrite mix thoroughly mixed with sand and pebbles (1-1.5cm). The soil mixture must be well drained.

Water: It requires moderate watering in summers and no water in the winter season. Watering is needed only once a week during summers. Mammillaria elongata has typical water needs for a succulent. It’s best to use the ‘soak and dry method’ , and allow the soil to dry out completely between watering.

Sunlight: It requires bright indirect light if kept indoors and afternoon shade if kept outdoor. It does well in full to partial sun. If you are growing this particular plant indoors, you will need to pay special attention to how much light it gets. Choose the brightest spot in the house to place your plant.
