Mammillaria , the gold lace cactus or ladyfinger cactus, is a species of flowering plantin the family Cactaceae, native to central Mexico. Growing to 15 cm tall by 30 cm wide, it consists of densely packed clusters of elongated oval stems, covered in harmless (although very sharp) yellow or brown spines, and in spring producing white or yellow flowers. It is among the commonest and most variable of its genus in nature, and is a popular subject for cultivation.
Flowering Season: Summer
Planting Media: Use soilrite mix thoroughly mixed with sand and pebbles (1-1.5cm). The soil mixture must be well drained.
Water: It requires moderate watering in summers and no water in the winter season. Watering is needed only once a week during summers. Mammillaria elongata has typical water needs for a succulent. It’s best to use the’ soak and dry method , and allow the soil to dry out completely between watering.
Sunlight: It requires bright indirect light if kept indoors and afternoon shade if kept outdoors for good flowering and spine maturation. It does well in full to partial sun.
