About:
Sempervivum tectorum Oddity is an evergreen rosette succulent with mat forming growth habit with densely clustered leaves. Most Sempervivums have expansive and pointed leaves however the leaves of this succulent are collapsed lengthwise and in reverse and looks like green cigarette papers. Every rosette can be very vast (up to 4 inches wide) and may have up to 50-60 leaves. The blooms are pink and shapes like a star. This cultivar once in a while tends to mutate with completely flat leaves. It has at times been called “Trumpeter” as if each pipe was a whistle.
Planting Media: Use soilrite mix thoroughly mixed with sand and pebbles (1-1.5cm). The soil mixture must be well drained.
Water: The best way to water succulents is with the “soak and dry” method. Soak the soil completely then let the soil dry out completely before watering again. And make sure the succulents are in a well draining soil in a pot with a drainage hole.
For indoor succulents, it is generally best if water doesn’t get on top of the leaves. If it sits on a leaf for too long it can cause rot. This isn’t as much of an issue for outdoor succulents because there is more airflow and the water will dry out quicker.
Sunlight: It appreciates full sun, however in hotter atmospheres it needs protection from an excess of sun since it isn’t very warmth tolerant.
